Our Community: Rolling Thunder

At Mobicomm, we are proud to sponsor and work with many events and groups that operate in our local community. One of these events is the Rolling Thunder races, in which we sponsored a car.

Below is a recap of how the race went, written by Dean Brindle.

Hi Team,

We have just completed the Rolling Thunder series which was held through February and March. The series went fairly well for us as we started to find the much needed speed that we were lacking with the car.

Round 1 Palmerston North:

The first round went fairly well for us with a pair of 2nd place finishes in the heat races so after the points were totalled we were top points scorer so started off the front row. Unfortunately the track changed a fair amount through the 30 lap final and we didn’t quite get our tyre choice right so drifted back and ended up finishing 4th .

Round 2 Kihikihi Speedway:

Another solid round for the team with solid finishes in the heat races to have us starting on the front row of the 30 lap final. We ran in the 2nd spot until around halfway through. We missed the car setup slightly so dropped a spot and finished 3rd.

Round 3 Western Springs:

Going into the final round we were sitting 3rd in points overall so we needed to charge hard to attempt to win the series. The heat races went fairly well finishing 4th from the back and 2nd from grid 5. This gave us top points for the night and another front row start. On the start we charged away into first place and opened up a healthy lead on second place. The 30 lap final was full of a number of stoppages due to crashes etc so we had to be calculated on a number of restarts which we managed to do to retain the lead. We finished the final race in 1st place which was enough for us to also secure 2nd place overall in the series. This was a great result for the team and it certainly felt good to be on the top step of the podium again with the win.

We now head back to Western springs this weekend for their final night of the season and then onto the Andrew Edwards memorial race at Kihikihi speedway the following weekend. Following on from this we have one more event at Parramatta speedway in Sydney and then that is it for the season.

Thanks again for all your continued support and we might see you at the track at one of the last events!

Dean and the Team.
